Memorial Day {2015}

We had an extremely low key Memorial Day. Matt worked and Mason and I just hung out. We went to the mall when they opened to get some sunglasses at The Children's Place. Mason was obviously pleased with the choices we made. :)

Then, Mason got some play time at the mall. How these "toys" are so enjoyable, I'll never know!

I stopped and picked up our free Frosties from Wendy's and took them home really quickly and then we grabbed lunch at Zaxby's. Pictures with my sweet boy while we waited for lunch. :)

At home, we ate our Frosties. Mason had his first!!

They were sooooo good! I had not had one in forever and forgot how much I liked them.

We both napped and then we headed outside to the pool! My main little guy was stylin'!

Swim time outside obviously wore this sweet boy out!

After Dad got home, we had a picnic outside. Black beans, chicken legs, watermelon, and homemade chips! YUM YUM YUM!

It was a beautiful day!

Mother's Day 2015

As I mentioned yesterday, Mother's Day was SUPER low key. We will go out for dinner another day soon so that will be nice.

McDonald's was giving away free biscuits for Moms from 7-9 so we loaded up in the car to go. I got a steak, egg and cheese. It was so yummy!

Matt headed to work and Mason and I headed out for a little time out and lunch. Mason wasn't interested in pictures but I didn't let that stop me.

We walked at Target and Wal-Mart and I got a few things with the money my Mom sent me for Mother's Day. Then, Mason treated me to CiCi's.

We both took awesome naps and snuggled snuggled snuggled!

I am so glad that I get the chance to be a Mom. Love my sweet sweet family!

Barilla Pronto {Smiley360}

I was recently contacted by Smiley360 to try out and review Barilla Pronto pasta. They sent me a box of Barilla Pronto Spaghetti and one box of Barilla Pronto Penne for free in exchange for my review.

The first one I tried was the spaghetti. The directions call for putting the spaghetti in the skillet, add 3 cups of cold water, turn the timer to 10 minutes and stir occasionally. I ended up having to stir almost constantly and I had to add nearly one additional cup of water. However, the beauty was that I didn't have to drain the pasta. YAY!

I added the sauce right into the pot and finished cooking the dish in the same pot.
I thought it was good but the little bit of ease wasn't worth the need to constantly stir and add additional water.

Later on, I cooked the penne the same way. I had to add a small amount of extra water but not much. This pasta also required slightly less stirring that the spaghetti had.

I think if you want to try something new, go for it. All in all, I don't think the fact that you don't have to drain the water was enough reason to purchase this over the regular pasta.

The Real Doctor Will See You Shortly by Matt McCarthy {A Book Review}

The Real Doctor Will See You Shortly by Matt McCarthy was just the fun and enjoyable memoir I hoped it would be! I am certain that McCarthy could be an English professor or full time writer should his medical profession go south! :)

Okay, more about the book now. The book shows just a small glimpse into Matt's intern year sharing some funny stories, hard stories and just some cool kind of behind-the-scenes glances into the "real" intern year.

McCarthy writes about the close saves, the hard losses, the difficult to understand cases and even the mistakes/learning moments, an intern has.

I loved McCarthy's openness, realness, and just plain honesty about the hard times related to a medical career. Sure, you go to medical school and learn so much but the rubber meets the road when you enter the hospital for the real deal.

I relate to this as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) because we schooled for years and then finally got our hands on patients and it was just a whole other ball game. Just like it is day to day life as an SLP and I am sure as a doctor, too.

I think anyone who is in the medical profession or considering the medical profession would enjoy this book. It is a bit crude but I was able to overlook that easily. I also think anyone who enjoys memoirs, medical related or not, would enjoy this. Check it out!

I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
