Louisiana Visit {October 2017} {Part 1}

Last Monday morning, we all took Mason to speech and hung out while he was in his session. 

  

After, we ran to Home Depot to potty before we left and we told Matt good-bye and go along our way! 

The boys and I were on the road about 9:20 and we were excited! We stopped a couple of hours in for lunch and it was McDonald's per Mason's request! 

Mason LOVED seeing this HUGE pumpkin display on our way back to the interstate. 

The rest of our travel was good and we got into Birmingham about 2:30. 

Pure sweetness...

Our first stop was Cookie Fix. I had read about it and wanted to try it out. Those cookies were saved for later and they were yummy! 

We got to our friends' house about 3:00 and all of the boys were outside playing in no time! 

We enjoyed the fun afternoon, snacks and pizza dinner. 

No shirts on kids for pizza dinner! 

A little more playtime before bed is always a good idea!

The next morning, the boys were up well before daylight so we just made it work and got dressed and on the road. We were well over an hour in before we saw this outside of our windows. 

Everyone travelled well and we only stopped once for gas and snack cup filling. Maddox napped for a while and so did Mason! 

We got into Louisiana about 11:00 and went straight to lunch with GiGi! 

We enjoyed delicious lunch and then visited with some of GiGi's former co-workers before we headed to PawPaw's. We got there just in time for chill time/nap time! 

  

We made a grocery store trip after rest and enjoyed some time outside. It was hot but so pretty! 

There was plenty of playtime inside after baths and before bed. 

  

Once Maddox was in bed, Mason showed PawPaw how to play games on the iPad. 

I put the boys in bed and went to PJs for my favorite PJ's Coffee drink, Frozen Hot Chocolate. Aside from them not having whipped cream, it was YUM! 

We were all in bed asleep early and prepping for another day in Louisiana! 

Indescribable: 100 Devotions About God & Science {A Book Review}

Indescribable: 100 Devotions About God & Science by Louie Giglio is such a great addition to a daily devotional rotation! I will say while I read through several of the devotions this book is not meant for my kids' ages so we will be putting this book away for a bit. 

 There are 100 devotions with excellent illustrations, scripture reference, a "be amazed" excerpt and a prayer for each one. The devotions are enjoyable and relatable as well as concise. What I love about the book as a unique feature is that they are all related to God as well as science. That means these are showing part of creation and then relating them back to the Creator. 

I think this would be a great devotional for homeschooling families as these could easily be incorporated into school time each day for devotions, religion and/or science.

Bringing Maggie Home By Kim Vogel Sawyer {A Book Review}

Bringing Maggie Home by Kim Vogel Sawyer was a book that intersted me so much from the synopsis that I nearly requested it twice! That being said, when I started reading it took me nearly 2 weeks to get past the first couple of chapters. The back and forth style of the writing going between present day and nearly 60 years before was hard initially. 

However, once I pushed through those first few chapters, it was excellent! So excellent, in fact, that I finished within 24 hours. The story is of three generations in one family who are brought together after the granddaughters is injured working. As they come together, you learn that there is a lot of animosity between the older two generations as well as between the younger two generations. 

As you read the book, you learn of a secret the grandmother has been keeping for over 60 years. You also learn the reasons animosity has been harbored for years between the members of the family. The way the stories go back and forth between the grandmother's voice, the mother's voice and the granddaughter's voice, is very interesting. It's enjoyable to hear firsthand their thoughts as the story progresses. 

There's also a tiny bit of romance involved and that was a fun little addition despite is not being the main storyline. Great christian fiction book with the voice of God woven through it as well. 

The Morgan's Movements {Week 40} {Sunday Only Edition}

This week, this post just includes Sunday because we spent the rest of the week in Louisiana so I'll recap that in additional posts! :)

Maddox did a little light reading after church. He is really starting to love books more and more. 

We had some hang time at home and then took Mason to AWANA. Maddox loved his "alone" time. 

  

  

I loved seeing Mason and his bud, Anna, cutting up at AWANA, too!

A Box of Awesome Things Matching Game {A Game Review}

This game, A Box of Awesome Things Matching Game, was a fun switch up from our usual book review. Instead, it's a game review! We opened this up as soon as we got home from a trip yesterday and we played it first thing this morning. 

The box and the pieces are super high quality and easy to store when not playing. The pictures on the cards are CUTE! Lots of random pictures including tacos, fireflies, Pluto, etc. My almost 4 year old and I really enjoyed playing. He was especially fond of the artwork on the back of the cards and I loved turning over the cards to find the fun pictures. 

There was also a blank pair included so you can draw your own picture. We haven't done that yet but I think that will be fun to do. This game would be a perfect stocking stuffer for Christmas or a birthday gift. It's great for any age!
