Weekend Funnies

I don't always love forwarded e-mails but sometimes they really are worth forwarding and sharing. Here are some weekend funnies!


1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing stinks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the heck are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8.  I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired. 

9.  Bad decisions can make good stories.

10. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.


11. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

12. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

13. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay. (this made me laugh out loud; sad but maybe true)

14. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

15. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

16. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

17. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

18. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time..

Quite a Scare

This past Sunday, July 10th, Matt and I were excited to be celebrating one year since we got engaged. We love special days so we were planning to watch a movie, cook dinner and go for a walk at Shakespeare (the place where we got engaged). We also were going to shop at JCPenney's because I need a few tops for church.

Right after I got home from church, I noticed I was having some blurred vision. I read a little bit online and decided it was probably nothing so we just went about our plans. When we left the apartment, we went to JCP and I started to get a headache. After being in JCP for less than 5 minutes, my vision  became more and more blurry and my headache worsened. Matt and I decided I should go to Pri-Med to get checked out.

Once we arrived there, my headache was much worse and the vision was blurring more too. The nurse took a sinus x-ray and the doctor determined I had a pretty bad sinus infection and they gave me two shots. One for pain and one that was an antibiotic. The doctor was still a little concerned since I have no prior history of major headaches and gave me an order to head to the ER to get a CT scan. At this point, as soon as the doctor gave me those shots, my headache went away!!!

We headed to the ER just to be safe. Thankfully, the ER wasn't busy. We got the CT scan which quickly came back negative and we headed home. It was a crazy experience to say the least but I'm glad to know that it is just a sinus infection and something that can be taken care of quickly and easily. The weirdest part was that I had no other signs of infection until this horrible headache blurred vision started.

I took the day off today from work and I am glad I did. I feel so much better today. And by the way, my husband is an awesome nurse. I'll keep him!

Something funny

Matt and I have been watching old seasons of Law and Order:SVU on Netflix the last couple of weeks. Matt told me that the other night I woke up in the middle of the night and started fiddling with things on the bedside table. When he asked what I was doing, I said "I can't believe that don't have enough evidence to convict them"!! I then rolled over and went back to sleep. HA!

Grilled Zucchini

Yesterday, Matt's co-worker gave us a HUGE zucchini. We considered frying it but didn't really want all of the grease. I looked up a recipe to grill zucchini and made it tonight for dinner. Matt couldn't stop eating it!

1 zucchini cut length wise
Olive oil
Salt, pepper, and other preferred seasonings

Brush the zucchini with olive oil and sprinkle with chosen seasonings.

You can grill on the outdoor grill if possible but we did it on our countertop griddle and it was awesome!!!!!

6 months!

This Friday, Matt and I will celebrate 6 months of marriage. So hard to believe that it's been 6 months already.  Since it is a milestone, I thought I'd share a few things we have been up to lately! :)

Current hobbies: Watching Seasons of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit on Netflix, Swimming in the apartment complex pool in the evenings, making various colored waffles (random, I know but we love breakfast for dinner and we try to spice it up a bit. Recently, we have had Green waffles and purple waffles)

Favorite recipes: Potato pancakes (made from leftover mashed potatoes), Any kind of smoothie (This started as a prep for Matt's wisdom teeth removal but we have made some good ones so I think we are hooked) Matt's favorite smoothie was Hazelnut Banana-Yum-o!

Books we are reading: I just finished Learning by Karen Kingsbury and I'm planning to read Sacred Marriage. Matt just finished For Men Only, To Own a Dragon and is starting a fun read- Fever Pitch

Our current dreams: We are in the process of Matt applying to some jobs in Atlanta with the Home Depot Corporate office. Right now, that is all we can see ahead. We believe it's what God has for us but we aren't jumping until he says to!

Upcoming fun plans: For our 6 month anniversary, we are heading to Atlanta for a night to meet up with Brad and Rebekah Hill who are heading there to see us as well as to celebrate their 1 year anniversary. It's sure to be a great time!

A Blessing

Earlier this month, Matt's maternal grandmother celebrated her 70th birthday. She had a girls getaway for several of her friends and the girls in the family in Tennessee. Unfortunately, I was unable to go because Matt's wisdom teeth surgery was around the same time. I was sad because I LOVE Grandmom. Anyway, everyone said they had a great time and even though I was not there, the Morgans still benefited. Grandmom and Granddad wrote a blessing to everyone in the family and it is so precious to us. They typed it up and gave everyone a copy. We can't wait to frame it in our apartment. Here is what it says:

Father, we welcome and acknowledge each of our children, 

our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren as delightful blessings from You. 

As Aaron, the high priest, spoke Your blessing over the people of Israel, so I speak

Your blessing over our children today. 

Dear Ones, we bless you in the name of Jesus. 

We proclaim the blessings of God, our Redeemer, upon you.

May He give you wisdom, a profound reverence and fear of God,

Wow, it's been so long since either of us has posted. Guess time has just gotten away from us. We are definitely enjoying married life and just enjoying each other. Lately, we find ourselves spending a lot of time together at home. We've been swimming, cooking, playing board/card games, watching Netflix, cooking etc. It's been fun!

Also, Matt's been interviewing for some jobs which is very exciting for us. Hopefully, more to come on that ASAP

Observations

Lately, I've been doing a great amount of observing of other people. So many things that I see frustrate me, make me scratch my head, make me want to scream and then in the end once Matt and I have discussed the observation, I usually just want to cry because I'm so sad for the people I'm observing. I've been diligently trying to allow the frustration to pass quickly, discuss it with the Lord or Matt (depending on the particular situation) and then allow my heart to feel for that person.
Here are just some of the things I've observed lately.


1. People spending WAY more money than they have. 
Ever since I watched "The Blessed Life" video series by Pastor Robert Morris at the Amite Church of Christ when I was in college and truly felt the Lord burden my heart for tithing, offering and being an excellent steward, it has BAFFLED me that others would choose not to do the same. I personally believe that tithing to God is the first step in being able to be financially free and sound no matter how much money you make. Next, you cannot spend more than you make. I've observed that people's priorities are completely skewed. Matt and I are in shock of the responsibilities people avoid (Family, friends, bills, etc) to buy those things that they think they MUST have. The culture is packed with people like this right now. What ever happened to saving until you had the money to buy something instead of buying it that day on a credit card and spending 30 years to pay it off?
Lord, burden your people's hearts to live as financially stable people. Amen.


2. Spouses don't spend time with each other as much as they spend time with other people.

Now, before I go too far. I realize that Matt and I have only been married for 5+ months but I pray that for the rest of our lives that we are the people that we each want to "Get away with for a week", etc. It makes my heart ache to see couples who are spending so much time apart. Now, let me clarify. I absolutely think that we as individuals need "Girl time" or "Man Time" for us and our husbands separately especially when children enter our families because it helps people grow. However, I don't believe this time should be in excess to those "Couple times" or "Date nights". For instance, if you as a spouse have not spent a night out with you sweetheart in a month, you need to cancel you night out separately and come together as a couple. And let me just say this, I think those times need to be alone often as well. Don't just have double dates all of the time. Spend a date night just the two of you sharing your dreams, realities, joys, sadnesses etc. Also, something I read years back before marriage even appeared to be on the horizon for me was about married vacations. Take a vacation with your spouse every year. Even if you can only afford 1 or 2 nights away in a hotel in the same town- Do it! Especially do it more often than you are taking trips separately. Remember guys, aside from your relationship with Christ, you marriage must come next for it survive and thrive!
Lord, Burden your people's hearts to be lovers of their spouses. Revive marriages! Amen


3. People cannot drive!!!!!


Use your blinker, folks. And if you drive near me and you hear a horn honking, it might be me ;-)


4. If you refuse to relax your standards as a believer, other folks get mad. 


When Matt and I got married, we decided that there were some things that we would not do and some things that we would always do. I won't share all of these because they don't apply. However, many of these are our boundaries that aid us in living the lives we believe we need to live. It is crazy to me that people close to us, even those in our own families at times treat us like we are aliens because we refuse (nicely of course...my husband can't be anything but nice, seriously) to bend or break our boundaries. Let me say this, at this point in time God will have to change the boundary because we aren't budging.
Lord, shows us your ways, show us your thoughts. They are so much higher and greater than our own!

Love in the chaos

The other day, while driving to work, God reminded me of a dream I had not long before our wedding. In the dream, Leslie was in her wedding dress and I was in my tux. We were walking to the church where we were to be married and every scene was so chaotic and busy. I remember us sitting on a park bench and being sad that we couldn't find peace and love on our wedding day. We finally got up from the bench, resigned that this is what our life would be like, and started to go the rest of the way to the church. When we were almost there we were walking past a set of doors.

There was singing coming from the other side and we had some time before we had to be at the church for the wedding, so we decided to check it out. When we walked through the doors we were at the  Passion Conference in the Phillips Arena and the song was "Our God" being lead by Chris Tomlin. We were overwhelmed with God's love and peace. I woke up with tears in my eyes (almost had tears just now thinking of the dream). God had shown me that no matter how crazy our life may get His love will always be there and the love between Leslie and me will always be there.

This past week has been one of those crazy, chaotic, and busy weeks. We worked the whole week, I even had to work that Sunday. We were off Friday and Saturday, but were on the road by 7:00 a.m. on Friday headed to Louisiana for Leslie's cousin's high school graduation. Friday night, we had to drive to her dad's house in a severe thunder storm. Heavy rain, high winds, hail, 25 mph on the interstate, the whole shebang.  We had to come back Saturday evening, and I had to be at church at 6:45 a.m. and work from 11:30 to 8:30 that Sunday.  We were exhausted.

Monday morning was when God reminded me of that dream. While I was thinking about the dream I had realized that after our crazy week, my love for my wife was stronger than ever. I love that I can truly say that I love Leslie more now than I ever have before AND that love continues to, by the grace of God, grow more and more everyday. Wow, do I love that woman.

Changes

Each one of us can look back on our lives in the last 5 years, 1 year, 6 months, heck, 1 week and see changes that have taken place. Good, bad, indifferent. Planned, unplanned. Predicted, unpredicted. Self-imposed or not. Either way you look at it, we have all seen our lives change at some point.

Recently, Matt and I both heard the Lord speak clearly to us about an important decision we needed to make in our lives. To be honest, it was something we knew we needed to do but something we were not anxious to do because we knew along with the great things that would come from this change, we would potentially lose some "things" that had given us stability to this point in our lives.

As some of you know, when I lived in Birmingham, I attended, joined and was heavily involved at Church of the Highlands. I LOVE this church. I can't tell you exactly why (at least in a a concise manner) what it is that I love but I just do. When I got my first career job in Prattville, AL I have plans to live just south of Birmingham and drive to work in Prattville which is approximately 1 hour. Four days before I was to start working, my car went nuts and it became clear that driving my car that much each week would be foolish. I made the decision to move to Montgomery (20 minutes from Prattville) and live there. When I moved to Montgomery, staying involved at Church of the Highlands was nearly impossible and honestly, as much as I love the church was not something I wanted to do. I wanted to be a part of  a church that I could easily attend and get involved. Through various people and moves of God,  I ended up at Gateway Baptist Church. From the first moment that I walked into the door at this church, I knew that this was were God wanted me for that time in my life. Now looking back, I know why (among MANY other reasons). This is where I met Matt. Cut to the present.

After Matt and I began dating, we were involved in teaching Sunday school and AWANA and we loved every minute of it. We were involved in a small group and LOVED our friends there and still do. Yet, there was something tugging in our hearts that there was something more. It has not been one specific thing that has tugged at our hearts but multiple things and often things that we could not explain.

During this time, Matt and I really felt like God was calling us to Highlands who had since started a campus in Montgomery. For me, this was hard because I wanted to make sure I wasn't just leaning that way because it was something I wanted but we wanted to make sure it was a mutual decision and ultimately a God-ordained one.

In February, we began attending the campus in Montgomery and just asked that the Lord would show us what His plans were. We attended for one month just "visiting" and by the end of that month we knew we were where we needed to be.

The hard part has been that there was nothing specific that led us away from Gateway. Other than the Lord, that is. We LOVE the people there. We LOVE the fellowship. We LOVE the worship. We just LOVE God more and want to heed his voice.

So, today we find ourselves at Church of the Highlands, Montgomery Campus. It is incredible. Sure, there are things we would prefer to be different. Isn't it that way with any church we attend? It shows our nature and keeps us longing for heaven (in my opinion). We are getting plugged in slowly and finding our niche for serving. It is good just as everything the Lord does is good.
