Maddox {Month 2}

Maddox is TWO MONTHS OLD!!!

Our sweet boy is growing like crazy. He turned two months old on August 6th. We had his well check and here's an update. 



Weight: 12 pounds, 11 ounces (65%); It took Maddox 2 weeks to get back to birth weight (7 pounds, 10 ounces) so essentially, he gained 5 pounds in 7 weeks. Big guy!

Height: 24 inches That's TWO FEET TALL!! :) (85%)

Head Size: 15 3/4" (75%)



Nicknames: Maddox-Man, Brother, Bugga Bugs, Baby Ma-Miks (by Mason), Bruh Bruh, Bug, Love-Buggy (and on and on and on)

Eating: During the day, Maddox eats every 3 hours. He's eating 5-6 ounces with each bottle. At night, he eats at 9:00p.m. and then he sleeps until 6:00a.m. He's getting 5 breastmilk bottles and 1 formula bottle. Everything is going well with him eating.

  

Sleeping: Maddox wakes each morning around 6:00a.m. give or take a few minutes. He is awake for about 1.5 hours and then back to sleep until 9:00a.m. From there, he is sleeping 1.5 hours out of every 3 hour period. And like I said above, he sleeps from about 9:30p.m. to 6:00a.m. each night. He's slowly stretching his day time awake time so his night time sleep time will be extending along with that. His first 8 hour stretch of sleep was July 18th.

 

Diapers: Gah, this kid is up to size 2 diapers now! ah! We are currently using loves because they were the best deal when I stocked up but we will likely move to Target brand later on. We hope to start cloth diapers in the next 1-2 weeks.

Clothes: Maddox is wearing some 0-3 month clothes still and he is wearing 3 months and even a few (in my opinion, poorly sized) 3-6 and 6 month clothes.

Social: Lots of smiling going on and when we get close to him, he really focuses in and smiles at us. It's THE. BEST.
It really feels like he is so close to laughing especially when we tickle him!
He met his PopPop and Mammy (Grammy but Mason calls her Mammy) right at the end of the month.

New/fun things from this month: 
Rolled over from belly to back at 6 weeks, 1 day. (7/19)
new but not fun: first cold at 7 weeks
hair is growing in on top. He hasn't lost much yet so I'm curious to see if he will.
Also fun! He hasn't had any baby acne. We shall see if he gets that or if he keeps that sweet skin without any blemishes for now! :)
He is little houdini from time to time in his swaddle and get his arm out. So cute.

Momma: 
Doing well. I'm pumping full time during the day and I'm glad it's going so well. I love SNUGGLES with my bud! Headed back to work when Maddox was between 7-8 weeks.

 

Daddy: 
Usually takes the 6:00 a.m. bottle and gets lots of extra snuggles and fun with Maddox in the morning. He is also getting to be Super Dad a couple of times a week now because I'm easing back into work. 



Mason: 
These two are awesome together! Mason is helping even more this month and we have had less and less "issues" so that's been great!

Compare to Mason: Mason's 2 month well visit showed just what a big guy he is! He was up to 12 pounds, 3 ounces (60th percentile), 22.75 inches long (40th percentile) and 15.25 inch head circumference. They are similar in head size and weight but Maddox looks like he might be taller than Mason. Can't wait to see!

Mason Meets a Policeman

Our local library has incredible story times and activities all of the time. Mason and I used to go frequently and when he got to be super active, we slowed down a bit with our story time outings. Then Maddox came and we really slowed down. We are trying to get back into it more now. Mason especially loves the storytimes at our Westside library right now.

We visited there last week for a morning story time and at the end of story time, a police officer came and talked to the kids. It was awesome! 

He's very into his letters right now and on this day, he picked "R".

Surviving Newborn-ness

Lately, I've been thinking about Maddox's (and Mason's) newborn time. It's incredibly beautiful, amazing, sweet but it's also hard, exhausting and a bit stressful. I wanted to share what I have done before the birth of my babies and in the 8 or so weeks following their birth that has helped me tremendously.

1. Plan Ahead: 

Before Mason was born, I planned ahead some. I have talked about that time in a previous post. We saved lots of money to be able to take it easier after he was born. Before Maddox was born, I prepared and planned ahead even more.

We purchased plenty of dried goods to stock our pantry. I purchased plenty of meat to stock our freezer. We also set aside a certain amount of money for June and the same for July for grabbing quick fast food or meals out when needed.

In addition to that, we purchased extra toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, etc. so that grocery trips would be for the essentials only. 

This was a HUGE help for us surviving the first two months. And the best part? We prepared enough that there is still food in the pantry and extra supplies in our storage unit.

2. Accept help

This a big one. The "world" seems to think that as moms we need to have a baby and get it all back together ASAP. I am NOT one of those people. I believe in accepting help (and I believe in providing it to others in return). 

The first thing we did to help us was have my mom come to stay with us. Of course, we wants to be here to meet her new grandchild but she came and stayed with us for 3 weeks (5 days before Maddox was born; 16 days after). This was awesome because she would do lots of playing with Mason, holding Maddox while we slept and so on. 

We also were offered meals through our MOMS Club and through the generosity of the moms in the group, we received 12 meals! 12 meals that you don't have to cook? Incredible! 

The meals I did have to cook, I kept simple. Sandwiches, quick boxed meals, etc. Thankfully, my family is not picky so I can make just about anything! 

Lastly, anytime a friend asked if they could help with Mason and/or Maddox, I said YES! I was so grateful!

3. Use Paper Plates

Yep. With Mason, I continued to use our everyday dishware. We don't really use paper products. BUT with Maddox, I said "no way". This was a major plus. We ate and then just threw it away. Best. Idea. Ever.

4. Lay Low

I had a few people say they were surprised at how well things were going for us. Every time, I told them that it was because we literally didn't do anything or go anywhere. We went out very little. Matt and I took turns going out with Mason so that one of us was almost always home. This was an excellent idea on our part. 

Oh, and it doesn't hurt that our kids are awesome, too. ;-)

5. Lots of Baby Wipes

Seriously. The Morgans love baby wipes. ;-)

6. TV is Your Friend

We always limit the time that Mason watches TV. Some days he gets more TV time than others but

after Maddox was born, we just threw that into the wind. We are spending lots of time inside, I was working on trying to figure out feeding with Maddox, life's hectic. We certainly didn't leave the TV on all day long but we definitely weren't as strict and it helped us get through those busy and hectic first few weeks.

7. Matt Took Off

Matt was off for the first week, my Mom was here until Maddox was 16 days old and then Matt took off two full weeks shortly after that. It was incredible. I highly advise that!!

So, that's it. My secrets. ;-)

Mason Says... {And Does} {7}

 Looking at Pictures on the wall in our bedroom, Mason is naming people in each picture. He gets to a picture that is off Matt's entire family but it was taken before Mason was born. He says "Ma, where me?" Smart boy!

 One day, Mason was eating lunch at the dining room table and Maddox was hanging out in his bouncer seat nearby. Since they were both contained, I started working on laundry. I put the clothes on the dining table to fold which I never do. Mason says "No Ma! No Kose. Eat Eat!" haha!

We got a book from the library called "Who's Hiding?" and it has a rabbit crying on one of the pages. I asked Mason why he was crying. He said "he miss him mom!"

Mason was playing with toys a few Sundays ago. Out of the blue, he put his toy down, walked over and game me a sweet kiss. You can bet there were tears in my eyes!

He was sitting on the couch one day while I was feeding Maddox and I noticed him playing with his feet while watching a show. Shortly after I looked down again and realized he had Maddox's pacifier and was putting it between his toes. YUCK!!!

Maddox sneezed one morning and Mason said "Ma, Ma-mix sneezed." I said "What do you say?" He said "God bless you!" Love it!

Stopped for donuts one morning since we had literally been inside for days with colds. On the way home, I teased Mason and said "You don't really like donuts, do you?!" He didn't even pause before he said "Yes, ma'am!!"

Mason was finishing breakfast one morning and I asked if he needed anything else. He quickly said "Um, ICE CREAM!"

Apparently, we say "gosh" a little around here. Mason picked it up and the other day, he said "Dosh!" and then said "deep deep breath" and exhaled. ;-)
