The God-First Life by Stovall Weems {A Book Review}

Over the last 6 years, I've had the pleasure of hearing Pastor Stovall Weems preach several times. He is the paster of Celebration Church in Jacksonville, Florida and he is also the author this book, The God-First Life. While living in Alabama, I heard Weems speak at the church I attended there. I have also listened to him several times in various other venues. I love his straight-forward, non sugar coated way of preaching/teaching.

When I saw that his book was up for review, I decided to check it out. I was a little hesitant because most of the books I have been reading lately were fiction but I requested it anyway. I'm so glad I did. This book is an easy read from the standpoint that it is worded well. The content of the book was jam-packed with good stuff.

Weems focused on the scripture Matthew 6:33 which says to seek first God's kingdom. I loved the way that Stovall Weems brought this scripture to life providing fresh insight into ways we can truly live the God-first life. It was encouraging for him to say often that this is a journey not a destination.

My favorite part of the book was the encouragement he provided about living life in community. In the hour that I read that book, I was dealing with a crazy day. Sick son. Sick husband. Slight stress about money going to co-pays and medicine costs. And just the ins and outs of life. In the moment, I remembered that I am a part of a community of Moms and they can encourage me and lift me up. I immediately went to Facebook and posted on the MOPS page asking for prayer since I was feeling overwhelmed. Several women quickly responded with a statement of prayer and several even offered assistance. One friend brought lunch by later just to make it easier for us. What a blessing.

All of that to say, Stovall Weems balanced his personal testimony with the truth from God's Word especially centered around Matthew 6:33 to bring forth immense truth about how to live a God-first life.

I loved this book and recommend it to anyone!
