The Good News About Marriage by Shaunti Feldhahn with Tally Whitehead {A Book Review}

I recently received the book, The Good News About Marriage: Debunking discouraging myths about marriage and divorce by Shaunti Feldhahn with Tally Whitehead, from Blogging for Books. I have read several of the author's previous books including For Women Only and I have enjoyed her writing so when I saw this book for review, I decided to try it out.

Let me preface this review by saying that I had know idea that this book would be so heavily research/survey based. Had I known that I may not have chosen to review it.

That being said, this book had a TON of excellent information about marriage and divorce. In my opinion, the main purpose of the book was to debunk the myth that 50% of marriages both inside and outside of the church end in divorce. If you've been in church for any amount of time or listened to any kind of marriage seminar etc,, you have heard that statistic. Shaunti and her assistant, Tally Whitehead, bring many, many surveys, research projects and information to the surface that prove that this statistic simply is not true.

I enjoyed the book from the perspective of it being nice to hear that most marriages are surviving and not just surviving but thriving BUT because of the way it was written, presenting many new statistics etc., it was hard for me to read for any length of time.

I do think that this book would be excellent for pastors who are preparing for marriage seminars, marriage series in their church or counseling newly engaged, newly married or any married couple. It is so encouraging in that regard!

I will definitely pass this book along to a friend of mine who has a strong passion for seeing marriages restored and thriving at every stage. I know it will be interesting and helpful to he and his wife!

You can see a Sneak Peek at Chapter 1, check out Shaunti's Facebook, or see a Video about the book here!

I received this book for free from Blogging for Books for this review.
