The Foundation

Lately I've been thinking about how much time Matt and I have been spending together since we got married. We have spent most of our "free" time together. When we are not working or sleeping we are together at least 90% of the time. It's amazing. It's incredible. It's awesome.

Why am I so fired up about this?

Matt and I both believe that the foundation for the rest of our marriage is going to be formed within our first year of marriage. In fact, it's already formed a great deal over the last 2 months, 14 days, 4 hours and 28 minutes. We are still learning so much about each other and we KNOW that we will do that for the rest of our lives BUT so much of that learning really is happening right now.

We want to love to date each other for the rest of our lives. We want to enjoy dinners together just the two of us for the rest of our lives. We want to love sleeping next to each other for the rest of our lives. We want our sexual intimacy to honor God for the rest of our lives. We want to be a couple that people look at in awe because of how much we love each other FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES!

Now, let me say this. We know for a fact that our lives will change so much over the years that we are married. We will eventually spend a greater amount of time with others than we are doing right now. We will have children that will decrease the amount of silence in our home but increase the amount of love shown. We will go through more trials. We will see things differently in 10 years in some areas than we do right now.

But we didn't start this thing or rather follow through with this thing that God started so that we could be miserable for the rest of our lives! We want to be joy-filled husband and wife because that is the way it should be!

Til then-
Did You hear about the Morgans?

  1. Such a great truth. Carrie and I have done the same thing. We look to Deuteronomy 24.5 as our guidance for this principle.

I'm glad you're going to make it for the shower this weekend. Stinks that Matt can't make Catalyst though. Boo work!
