As many of you know, we had our first child, Mason, last November so we aren't newly expectant parents or expecting parents at all BUT I could not resist requesting this book, Expectant Parents, when I saw it up for review through Litfuse.
When I was pregnant, I read a book called The Christian Mama's Guide to Baby's First Year by Erin McPherson. This book was SUPER helpful because it looked past the 9 months that you are carrying the baby and into the first year of life and gave great information for what happens after baby arrives. This was huge for me because so many of the books about pregnancy were a bit daunting. I didn't want to know what might happen day by day to my body and hear all of the things that the authors made sound so terrible like stretch marks and vomiting and the like.
Therefore, I chose to focus on the good stuff that came after! I must admit, when I saw Expectant Parents, I was kind of performing a little test to put them up against other books to see what they had to offer. After reading the book, I can honestly say that Expectant Parents is a great resource for, well, Expectant Parents. Suzanne wrote this book well filling it with personal experiences as well as input from other parents, professionals in the field, bloggers with input in the matter. It is chock full of great information. I felt like the book was mostly geared toward women but there are sections in the book directly addressing Dads which I think is awesome!
The book presents information on unplanned pregnancies, miscarriages, relationship changes when babies are born and other topics. I felt like it really ran the whole gamut as far as that goes. After reading this book for review, I passed the book along to a new friend in my MOPS group who is expecting her first child next year. I told her I think it would offer great insight and even comfort as she prepares for baby!
While many books for new parents focus on prenatal development and the health of a mom-to-be, Suzanne Hadley Gosselin's Expectant Parents' core purpose is to help new parents understand key issues related to the arrival of a new child in the home, offering practical assistance as they prepare themselves for long-term family success.
