I like to mix up what I'm reading sometimes and I have tended to shy away from historical fiction for the most part. However, when I saw The Brickmaker's Bride by Judith Miller, I was immediately drawn in.
I started reading the book one evening and I'll be honest, the first chapter just didn't draw me into the book. The next day, I read the next chapter and still didn't get into it. I waited a few more days and went back to the book and then, I was hooked!
I love the storyline of this story with Laura Woodfield and her mother trying to sell their brickyard since her father was killed in the war. The story follows the Woodfields as they sell the yard and as Laura courts a gentleman named Winston. The story is just intriguing with, in my opinion, several fun twists and turns as the story goes on.
I really enjoyed the discoveries each of the characters made about themselves and others along the way of the story. I liked the Christian aspect woven throughout the book but it wasn't overwhelming. It actually felt more like real life that some other fiction books make the Christian life sound.
