High Cotton by Debby Mayne {A Book Review}

High Cotton by Debby Mayne is the first book in the Bucklin Family Reunion Series and it definitely has me anxious to read the next books in the series when they come out!

The main character of High Cotton is Shay Henke and while much of the story is hers, the chapters also share perspectives from several other family members. I assume that the following books will have a bigger focus on each of those characters.

The story is set is rural Mississippi and is full of all things southern. Shay receives an invitation to her family reunion. This would be exciting except that this is not an annual thing anymore, it tends to be twice a year or more frequently and it's always full of family craziness.

As the reunion is coming up, the story follows the family members through major life events: break-ups, marriage troubles, children trouble, moving, business issues, secrets between family members and on and on. It's a fun book and it was an easy read; I could hardly put it down and finished in a weekend. I loved the mixed up family drama that ensues throughout the story and while I know it is part of a series, it could easily be a stand alone book.

I loved the light-hearted nature of the book while also addressing some heavier issues in the lives of the characters. This would be a great beach read for the summer!

**I received this book for free. Review opinions are my own.**
