Sandy's Gift: Walking In The Light by William P Dunn IV {A Book Review}

I just finished reading Sandy's Gift: Walking With the Light by William P. Dunn IV and it was an incredible book but hard to get through because of what it shares. The author of the book, William P. Dunn IV, writes from his perspective sharing about the situation he and his family went through dealing with his wife's, Sandy, mental illness.

It's hard for me to say that I enjoyed this book because the information it shares is so deep and hard to swallow BUT I highly recommend this book for anyone who is dealing with mental illness in their family.

Sandy's Gift is a great resource from a first hand perspective. Dunn shares much of their family history including where their love story began, etc and then he dives deep into his wife's mental illness. It was a heartbreaking story to hear what he, his daughters and his wife went through during such a short period of time.

Dunn also writes that the HIPAA law had a large impact on what he was allowed to know about his wife's situation while it was ongoing. The system that was put into place to protect their family was actually hindering him from caring for her and when she came home, against doctor recommendations and because of a judge's ruling, those same systems weren't there to help them like they should have been.

My heart broke for Dunn and his daughters and even his wife because they needed support and they didn't get it. The eventual outcome may have been prevented had they gotten more assistance.

Like I said, I think this is a great book for those dealing with mental illness in their family.

**I received this book for free.**
