The Physics of Everyday Things by James Kakalios {A Book Review}

I just finished reading The Physics of Everyday Things: The Extraordinary Science Behind an Ordinary Day by James Kakalios and I must say, it was pretty interesting.

Let me start out by saying, it was very much science based. There were bits of humor in the pages because it goes through day-to-day life and that gets a bit comical thinking about all of the things you do throughout a whole day. Aside from that, it is science. Kakalios divides the books into chapters that are related to different tasks: You Begin Your Day, You Drive Into the City, You take a Flight, etc.

Several of the chapters would definitely not be an average day for me but for business men/women, it would be typical, I would think.  Within the chapters a brief synopsis of something you might do is described and then Kakalios goes into the details of the science behind each task.

For example: "You get caught up in the podcast as it plays a vibrant segment of music. You imagine the virtuoso rhythmically plying the bow back and forth across the strings. The image of the bow suddenly reminds you that you still need to brush your teeth. Turning up the volume, you dash to the bathroom and remove your electric toothbrush from the plastic holder that serves as a batter recharger."

Just believe this, the physics of the toothbrush is explained. It's just fun! I think if you enjoy science, this would definitely be a great book for you. I also think this would be a great coffee table book/bathroom book. It's divided into segments in each chapter so you could just read a bit here and there.
